N-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)-9h-purin-6-amine, also known as isopentenyladenine or ip, is a member of the class of compounds known as 6-alkylaminopurines. 6-alkylaminopurines are compounds that contain an alkylamine group attached at the 6-position of a purine. Purine is a bicyclic aromatic compound made up of a pyrimidine ring fused to an imidazole ring. N-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)-9h-purin-6-amine is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). N-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)-9h-purin-6-amine can be found in a number of food items such as sorghum, green zucchini, enokitake, and star fruit, which makes N-(3-methylbut-2-en-1-yl)-9h-purin-6-amine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
