N-methyl-β-alanine is soluble (in water) and a weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). N-methyl-β-alanine can be found in a number of food items such as common chokecherry, cauliflower, peach (variety), and plains prickly pear, which makes N-methyl-β-alanine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
