Ferribactin is a member of the class of compounds known as cyclic peptides. Cyclic peptides are compounds containing a cyclic moiety bearing a peptide backbone. Ferribactin is practically insoluble (in water) and a moderately acidic compound (based on its pKa). Ferribactin can be found in a number of food items such as jicama, quince, highbush blueberry, and soft-necked garlic, which makes ferribactin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
