4alpha-formyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol, also known as 4α-formyl-5α-cholesta-8-en-3β-ol, belongs to cholesterols and derivatives class of compounds. Those are compounds containing a 3-hydroxylated cholestane core. 4alpha-formyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Within the cell, 4alpha-formyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is primarily located in the membrane (predicted from logP). It can also be found in the extracellular space.
