4alpha-formyl-4beta-methyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol, also known as 4α-formyl-4β-methyl-5α-cholesta-8-en-3β-ol, is a member of the class of compounds known as triterpenoids. Triterpenoids are terpene molecules containing six isoprene units. 4alpha-formyl-4beta-methyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Within the cell, 4alpha-formyl-4beta-methyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is primarily located in the membrane (predicted from logP). It can also be found in the extracellular space.
