4,4-dimethyl-14alpha-hydroxymethyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is a member of the class of compounds known as triterpenoids. Triterpenoids are terpene molecules containing six isoprene units. 4,4-dimethyl-14alpha-hydroxymethyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely weak acidic compound (based on its pKa). Within the cell, 4,4-dimethyl-14alpha-hydroxymethyl-5alpha-cholesta-8-en-3beta-ol is primarily located in the membrane (predicted from logP). It can also be found in the extracellular space.
