(-)-medicarpin-3-o-glucoside is a member of the class of compounds known as pterocarpans. Pterocarpans are benzo-pyrano-furano-benzene compounds, containing the 6H-[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]chromene skeleton. They are derivatives of isoflavonoids (-)-medicarpin-3-o-glucoside is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). (-)-medicarpin-3-o-glucoside can be found in a number of food items such as pine nut, cupuaçu, olive, and almond, which makes (-)-medicarpin-3-o-glucoside a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
