(9e)-valenciaxanthin is a member of the class of compounds known as sesterterpenoids. Sesterterpenoids are terpenes composed of five consecutive isoprene units (9e)-valenciaxanthin is practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely weak acidic compound (based on its pKa). (9e)-valenciaxanthin can be found in citrus, which makes (9e)-valenciaxanthin a potential biomarker for the consumption of this food product.
