Solanesol is a member of the class of compounds known as polyprenols. Polyprenols are prenols with more than 4 consecutive isoprene units. Solanesol is practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely weak acidic compound (based on its pKa). Solanesol can be found in potato, which makes solanesol a potential biomarker for the consumption of this food product.
