Alpha-fernenol, also known as 3-hydroxydiploptene or isoarborinol, is a member of the class of compounds known as triterpenoids. Triterpenoids are terpene molecules containing six isoprene units. Alpha-fernenol is practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely weak acidic compound (based on its pKa). Alpha-fernenol can be found in cereals and cereal products, which makes alpha-fernenol a potential biomarker for the consumption of this food product.
