Asparagus racemosus, also called Shatavari, is a flowering perennial plant species in the genus Asparagus commonly found in Nepal, Sri Lanka, India and the Himalayas. Its extracts from the roots are used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine in India to treat various hormonal and reproductive tissues in women, and gastric ulcers and loss of appetite as well. However, only few studies support the effect of Shatavari on our health. Due to the destructive harvesting, habitat destruction and deforestation, Ayurvedic is now endangered in its natural habitat.
