Patients with the AG genotype may have a decreased response to atenolol or metoprolol, as measured by a smaller decrease in heart rate, as compared to patients with the AA genotype. Note that this association was only found in patients of European descent and not in African American or Hispanic patients. Other genetic and clinical factors may also affect. a patient's response to atenolol or metoprolol.
